Gilmore Girls: Complete Soundtrack:
Songs that are in this podcast (appear or are referenced in Season 1, Episode 13 of Gilmore Girls):
- “Walk Like an Egyptian” by The Bangles | Purchase music from The Bangles
- This song plays as the girls arrive at the Pastorella Theater
- This theater does not exist in New York City, which is odd considering Amy Sherman-Palladino’s dedication to referencing real locations and events throughout the run of the show.
- This song plays as the girls arrive at the Pastorella Theater
- “Hero Takes a Fall” by The Bangles | Purchase music from The Bangles
- This is the first song performed by The Bangles.
- Rory catches Paris dancing to this song as the camera pans to the girls in the 9th row.
- “Eternal Flame” by The Bangles | Purchase music from The Bangles
- This is the second song performed by The Bangles while Lorelai asks Sookie about Luke’s ex-girlfriend Rachel.
- “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me” by The Jayhawks | Purchase music from The Jayhawks
- Playing in the background at the party Lorelai barges in on to retrieve Madeline and Louise.
I am pictured holding my copy of Different Light from The Bangles (1986, Columbia).
Netflix Teaser Photo Misinterpretation
So here’s the photo Netflix posted that people were sure meant that one of the girls was pregnant. No. Wrong. This is a reference to this episode, just before Lorelai invites Rory’s school mates to join them for the Bangles. Here’s the scene:

Spinning in Stars Hollow
This week I’ve added 3 songs to the season 1 Spinning In Stars Hollow playlist:
- “West End Girls” by Pet Shop Boys | Purchase music from Pet Shop Boys
- Based on the other music she was interested in, the charting performance of this song, and the time period of it’s release, I’d bet Lorelai owned a Pet Shop Boys cassette.
- “Cruel Summer” by Bananarama | Buy music from Bananarama
- As a fan of The Bangles, Lorelai would have loved Bananarama as well.
- In Season 3, Episode 3 “Application Anxiety” Lorelai even suggests:
- “Hey, maybe instead of going to college, you should drop out and I could quit my job and we can form an all-girl band with Lane, you know, like Bananarama. We could call it Tangerinarama or Banana-fana-fo-fana-rama. . .or something. Honey, I’m just kidding, you gotta go to college.”
- “What I Like About You” by The Romantics | Buy music from The Romantics
- I’ve decided, despite this song’s extensive use in main stream culture, Lorelai would leverage this pop song to be a really great punchline for when she needs to tease Rory, thank Luke or annoy Michel.
Please, if you like what you hear, support these artists and buy their music.
The Gilmore Girls Soundtrack theme music was provided by Scott Holmes. A big, big thanks to Scott for sharing his great talent.
I’ve always wondered why the Bangles song “If she knew what she wants” was never used in the series. It’s my favorite by them, even though they didn’t write it.

Ooooh, that is a good song. It would be quite appropriate for Gilmore Girls as well! Maybe I’ll include it as an upcoming Spinning in Stars Hollow suggestion! Thanks for listening!
